‘Early’ hits highs

'Survivor' lifts ayemer; 'GMA,' 'Today' dip

NEW YORK — With “Survivor”-fueled increases, CBS News’ “The Early Show” posted all-time highs in key demos for the week ended March 3.

Among women 25-54, the Eye’s ayemcast posted a 1.8/12, up 50% from the same week a year ago (1.2/8). In adults 25-54, “Early” also enjoyed its best performance ever, with a 1.3/10, a 30% jump from the same week last year (1.0/8). In women 18-49, “Early” posted a 1.5/12, up 50% compared with the same week last year (1.0/8), according to Nielsen numbers.

In household ratings, “Early Show” posted a 2.5/10, up 9% from the same week a year ago (2.3/9), while ABC News’ “Good Morning America” was down 12% (3.8/15 from 4.3/17). The frame was “Early’s” second most-watched week since its premiere in November 1999. Meanwhile, category leader NBC News’ “Today” dipped a slight 4% (5.1/20 from 5.3/20).

In total viewers, “Early Show” saw a 16% increase (3.0 million from 2.6 million) from the same week a year ago, while “GMA” dipped 8% (4.6 million from 5.0 million), and “Today” was down 5% (6.0 million from 6.3 million).

A ‘View’ to a thrill

Meanwhile, ABC’s “The View” posted its highest sweeps performance ever among 18-49 during the recently wrapped February sweeps period. In the key femme demo, the program posted a 1.7 rating/13 share, tied for the third hour of NBC News’ “Today.” “The View” was up 16% over last February’s sweeps.

In latenight, NBC’s duo of “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” and “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” had reason to celebrate. “Tonight Show” won its 20th consecutive sweep in adults 18-49, while “Late Night” earned its 25th consecutive sweep victory in all key categories.

But the Eye net also had cause to boast: “Late Show With David Letterman” posted a 13% increase in adults 18-34 during February sweeps compared with a year ago, and “The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn” was up in virtually all adult demos.
