CBS has found a way to squeeze more mileage from its hit reality franchise “Survivor.” Eye net has greenlit an hourlong “Survivor” special that will air Thursday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. — a week before “Survivor 3: Africa” bows in the same slot.
Details of the spec are still being worked out, but one insider said the hour will provide a look at “how to play the game of ‘Survivor.’ ” Spec will also offer an extensive preview of “Survivor 3,” with a peek at the show’s new cast and location.
CBS News Prods., which produced last May’s post-“Survivor 2” wrap special, is set to produce the “Survivor 3” preview.
The “Survivor” spec helps CBS solve part of an early-season scheduling dilemma: What to program at 8 p.m. Thursdays in the three weeks leading up to the “Survivor” preem.
Network previously announced that the season finale of “Big Brother 2” would occupy the first Thursday slot of the season, Sept. 20. The Sept. 27 slot is still a question mark, though a repeat of “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” is one possibility.
