It’s time for Gene Blythe’s close-up: The exec has been upped to executive vice president of casting at ABC Entertainment Television Group.
He had been senior VP of casting since September 1999. Blythe, who oversees casting issues for both ABC and Touchstone programming, reports to ABC Entertainment Television Group co-chairs Stu Bloomberg and Lloyd Braun.
“Gene has been an invaluable executive at our company for 13 years, and he continues to play a vital role in the development and casting of our programming,” Braun said.
Blythe joined ABC from Walt Disney Television, where he served as senior veep of casting. While there, he oversaw casting on longform, series and pilot projects. Credits include “Home Improvement,” “Ellen,” “Boy Meets World,” “Popular” and “Unhappily Ever After.”
Actors contracted under Blythe include Tim Allen, Drew Carey, Salma Hayek, Dave Chappelle and Doug E. Doug.
Blythe joined Disney in 1988; prior to that, he was director of casting at MTM Prods., working on series such as “St. Elsewhere” and “Newhart.”
