‘Shrek’ shleps in

Animated ogre appears in Westwood

“Shrek” co-director Vicky Jenson said the key to getting the animated pic right was “to be funny, really entertaining, not preachy. There’s a message –don’t let everyone else tell you what you’re supposed to be, outward appearances aren’t what’s important, it’s what’s inside — but we snuck it in without anyone resenting us for it.”

She was speaking at DreamWorks’ special screening Sunday at Mann’s Village Theater in Westwood. Among those in attendance were studio honchos Jeffrey Katzenberg, Steven Spielberg with Kate Capshaw, Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald; co-director Andrew Adamson; voice talents Cameron Diaz, John Lithgow, Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy; and guests Jason Alexander, Christina Applegate, Tom Cruise, Jay Roach with wife Susanna Hoffs, Ricky Schroder, Jane Seymour, Mena Suvari and Janine Turner.
