Risto Orko

Finnish producer-helmer Risto Orko died Sept. 29 in Helsinki. He was 102.

Orko began his career at Suomi-Filmi, when he was 34 and quickly rose to be chief of production and chief helmer, directing epic patriotic films and light comic romps.

Orko also championed the technical development of Finnish film production, importing state-of-the-art lenses as necessary.

Additionally, he presided over several trade guilds and continued working to the age of 100.

He is survived by five children, one of whom, son Kare Orko, continues as CEO of Suomi-Filmi.
