HOLLYWOOD — National Geographic Channels Intl. has upped Bryan Smith to the new post of executive VP of programming and production to support its rapidly growing global business. Smith had been senior VP of global production.
Originally a veterinary surgeon, the Aussie moved into television production 20 years ago as a reporter with the Australian Broadcasting Corp.’s documentary unit.
He later formed his own production company and devised and taught courses on interviewing and writing techniques before becoming general manager of the National Geographic Channel in Australia in 1997.
Smith, who will be based in Washington, will report to Angela Morton, NCGI chief operating officer.
“Bryan will work closely with regional programmers to ensure the channels continue to provide viewers with the compelling programming they have come to expect,” Morton said.
