CANNES — Germany’s kidvidder EM.TV and Spain’s Planeta 2010, the film and TV subsid of the Planeta Group, have finalized a co-production pact on seven animated series and inked a first-look deal to co-produce additional toon projects.
The deal shows that Planeta 2010, which already has 50-50 distrib operation Planeta Junior with EM.TV for Spain and Portugal, is going one step further by contributing co-financing, talent and Spanish technology to the seven series.
Announced at Cannes, the co-production accord includes two half-hour toon series: the youth-aimed “Old Tom,” based on a comicstrip by Leigh Hobbs, and “Fairy Tale Police Department (F.T.P.D)” about top crime fighters in Fairy Land.
Other series in the deal are “Flipper & Lopaka II” and “Tabaluga II,” plus the already unveiled “Nick and Perry,” about two alien dogs; “The World of Tosh,” based on a Swedish story; and further episodes of “Pigs Next Door,” featuring a porcine family.
Planeta Junior will handle marketing and licensing rights on the series for Spain and Portugal.
