Latin music veteran John Echevarria has signed on as president of Universal Music Latino, reporting to Jesus Lopez, chairman of Universal Music Latin America and Iberian Peninsula.
Echevarria will handle day-to-day operations at Universal Music Group’s U.S. imprint for Latin music. Appointment continues the ongoing management shuffle at Universal’s Latin music operation that began earlier this summer.
Exec comes to UMG from an eight-year tenure at Sony Music Intl., most recently as the label’s veepee of music publishing for Latin America. Echevarria also held marketing and finance posts at Sony Music predecessor CBS Records, as well as Virgin Espana.
Universal Music Latino’s current roster includes Mexican quartet Los Tucanes de Tijuana, pop vocalist Luis Fonsi and Puerto Rican tropical act Grupo Mania.
