NEW YORK — BMG Entertainment has tapped Swee Wong as managing director for the music group’s ASEAN-region businesses, effective June 1.
ASEAN refers to the Assn. of Southeast Asian Nations, a regional political and economic coalition.
Wong, who will be based in Kuala Lumpur, will oversee BMG’s operations in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. He will report to Michael Smellie, BMG’s senior VP for the Asia-Pacific region.
Prior to his promotion, Wong was managing director of finance and operations for the ASEAN area. Exec also served in various financial and operational posts in the company’s Hong Kong office, and as managing director of BMG Taiwan.
Wong replaces Maarten Steinkamp, who left the ASEAN post to become VP and general manager, marketing, of BMG’s U.K. music division.
