Berkshire fest goes for Lowe’s ‘Kill’

Legiter's cast includes Johnston, Shear, Finnerman

SOUTHBURY, Conn. — A pre-New York production of Michele Lowe’s comedy “The Smell of the Kill” is set for this summer’s Berkshire Theater Festival season.

The cast features Kristen Johnston ( “3rd Rock From the Sun”), Claudia Shear (“Dirty Blonde”) and Katie Finneran, a recent Sally Bowles in Broadway’s “Cabaret.” Christopher Ashley will direct the production, which will run July 31 to Aug. 11.

The season, produced in Stockbridge, Mass., by Kate Maguire, will open with Gilbert & Sullivan’s “H.M.S. Pinafore,” directed by James Warwick on June 21-July 7. Clifford Odets’ “Awake and Sing!” will follow (July 9-28). Directed by Elina deSantos, the production stars Dylan McDermott (“The Practice”) as Moe and his wife, Shiva Rose, as Hennie. Marilyn Fox will play Bessie.

To close the season after Lowe’s comedy, Maguire has programmed a revival of “My Fair Lady,” featuring “Pinafore’s” British director, Warwick, in the role of Henry Higgins and operatic soprano Maureen O’Flynn as Eliza. Eric Hill will direct the Aug. 14-Sept. 1 run.
