'Riverdance' leaps to biggest gain

Broadway inched up about 1% in Week 12 (August 13-19) ringing up a total of $12,978,617. Attendance also picked up 2.1%, to 225,852.

Of the 26 shows, 16 climbed. Biggest gain was “Riverdance,” leaping $94,159 and ending its week with $708,665 of a $983,840 potential. Also gaining were “Stones in His Pockets” up $25,863 to $181,289 and “If you Ever Leave Me…” with a total of $175,700 in its second week on the boards.

Biggest decline was “The Music Man,” down $38,470 to $467,596. “Annie Get Your Gun” and “Beauty and the Beast” also had five figures losses of $28,538 and $24,850 respectively.

The 19 musicals grossed $11,224,936 for 86.5% of the Broadway total with musical attendance of 14,963,238, repping 86.9% of capacity.

The seven plays earned $1,753,681 for 13.5% of the total. Attendance was 37,753 for 70.3% of capacity.

Average ticket prices were $46.45 for plays, $59.68 for musicals and $57.47 overall.
