First fruit of the new Rita Rusic Co., established after the producer split with husband Vittorio Cecchi Gori, “Every Dumped Boyfriend Is Lost” fails to do for elf-like actor Piero Chiambretti what the Rusic-backed “The Cyclone” did for Leonardo Pieraccioni: create a smash debut for a likable TV comic. Here the sad tale of a guy’s broken heart is rolled paper thin. Pic’s surrealistic sets and dizzy pace point to younger viewers, but they are unlikely to turn out in droves for this postmod romantic comedy that’s only intermittently funny.
Wailing the blues, Piero C. (Chiambretti) narrates his life from childhood to fame as host of the hit TV show “That’s Amore.” After his blissful relationship with his gorgeous g.f. (Vanessa Asbert) ends, he’s comforted by his “best friend” (Gretha Cavazzoni), who’s equally stunning. Viewers are left to ogle a string of beautiful top models posing as normal people, none of whom turn on Piero C. Gamely aiming at nonstop high spirits, pic ends up looking like a confused montage of cabaret and MTV numbers, thanks to its garish pop colors and a loud, lively and mood-bending songtrack.
