James Woods has signed on to play a role recently left vacant by Marlon Brando in Dimension Films’ “Scary Movie 2.”
Currently in production, “Scary Movie 2” is helmed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and stars brothers Shawn and Marlon Wayans, who also penned the script. Peter Schwerin, VP of production and development, is overseeing the pic for Dimension.
Brando was to play a priest who performs a supernatural exorcism at the beginning of the movie. His paycheck would have been $2 million for four days of work, but health reasons forced the thesp to bow out of the pic in late April.
Woods joins an ensemble cast that includes Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Tori Spelling, Kathleen Robertson, Andy Richter, Christopher Masterson, Chris Elliott, Tim Curry, David Cross, Natasha Lyonne and Richard Moll.
Co-head of production Brad Weston and senior exec veep Michael Helfant negotiated the deal on behalf of Dimension. Woods is repped by ICM.
The original “Scary Movie” generated the highest grosses in Miramax/Dimension history, minting $157 million domestically.
The sequel, produced by Eric L. Gold and co-exec produced by Lisa Blum, will be released by Dimension on July 4.
