Winstar Cinema has acquired “What Time Is It There?,” the latest film by Taiwanese director Tsai Ming-Liang. Winstar will screen the pic in the U.S. and English-speaking Canada.
Earlier this year, the distrib scored an unlikely success with Edward Yang’s “Yi Yi,” a Taiwanese import that recently topped $1 million in North American box office. “Tsai is a wonderfully entertaining filmmaker and ‘What Time Is It There?’ represents his most mature film to date,” said Krysanne Katsoolis, Winstar’s senior vice president of acquisitions. Other recent Winstar releases include Francois Ozon’s “Under the Sand” and Jafar Panahi’s “The Circle.”
