UIP’s Cripps garners Cinema honor

Vet chosen Cinema Expo Intl. 2001 distributor of year

Andrew Cripps, prexy and chief operating officer of United Intl. Pictures, has been tapped Cinema Expo Intl. 2001 distributor of the year.

Cripps will receive the kudos at the 10th anniversary awards ceremony June 28th at the Amsterdam RAI Intl. Exhibition and Congress Centre.

A 15-year vet at UPI, which distribs pics for Paramount, Universal and DreamWorks in more than 60 countries, Cripps joined the company in 1986 as an exec assistant to the G.M. in Japan. He later became sales veep for South East Asia and Australia. In 1990, he was tapped senior VP of international sales and became prexy-chief operating officer in 1999.

“Andrew Cripps has been a champion of the international theatrical marketplace for many years and a key component of Universal’s worldwide success,” said Marc Shmuger, U’s vice chairman. “His dedication, persistence and commitment to the international arena is unchallenged.”

The Cinema Expo Convention, which runs June 25–28, screens films that have not yet released in certain regions. It also holds marketing seminars as well as a trade show for food concessions.
