NEW YORK — Robert Duvall’s “Assassination Tango” is on the United Artists dance card.
Label has come on board to distribute the Latin American thriller, exec produced by Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope.
Pic is clearly a labor of love. Duvall is an aficionado of the Argentinean dance, having served as chair of the U.S. Tango Academy.
Thesp wrote the film, which he is also producing, directing and starring in. Pic just began lensing in Buenos Aires.
Cast includes Ruben Blades, Frank Gio, Kathy Baker and Luciana Pedraza.
Duvall plays a New York hitman whose last assignment takes him to Buenos Aires. Blades plays an Argentinean whom he befriends in the local tango cafes; what seems like an easy hit turns much more mysterious and dangerous.
UA will distribute “Tango” as part of its nonexclusive, two-year, 10-pic deal with American Zoetrope.
Duvall is producing with Rob Carliner under his own production label, Butchers Run Films. American Zoetrope production topper Linda Reisman will exec produce with Coppola. Steven Brown and Raul Outea are co-producing.
The eight-week shoot includes one week of second-unit photography in Gotham.
