U opens its heart to Addario, Syracuse spec

'Dark Romantic Comedy' nabs low sig figures

Universal has fallen for Lisa Addario and Joey Syracuse’s “Untitled Dark Romantic Comedy,” plucking the spec off the market for low six figures against midsix figures.

Arguably girl-crazy, Addario and Syracuse have penned “Mai, the Psychic Girl,” set up at Columbia Pictures, “The It Girl” set up at Paramount and “Wondergirl” previously optioned at Shooting Gallery.

Pic will concern a self-help guru who conceals his own disastrous record in romantic relationships in order to protect his psycho-babble franchise. But things go awry for the shrink when a young, female, investigative reporter digs into his past and begins to reveal the truth.

“Romantic” is being produced by Tapestry Films, where it will be overseen by president of production Jennifer Gibgot and at U by veep of production Tim O’Hair.

Addario and Syracuse are repped by the Gersh Agency and managed by the Bauer Co.
