Dimension Films has acquired North American distribution rights to the thriller “Mindhunters” from Intermedia Films. Pic, to be helmed by Renny Harlin, will begin lensing in January.
LL Cool J, Val Kilmer, Patricia Velazquez and Christian Slater are attached to star in the thriller, centering on elite FBI psychological profilers who become the victims of a serial killer. Gerald Butler is negotiating to join the cast.
“This is the first picture Intermedia has sold to Dimension, and we always thought it was perfect for their brand,” said Jere Hausfater, Intermedia prexy of worldwide distribution and acquisitions.
Dimension “distributes the kind of films that I enjoy making and watching,” said Harlin. “It’s hard to imagine a more clever marketing strategist for a thriller like ‘Mindhunters’ than (Dimension co-chairman) Bob Weinstein.”
The screenplay was written by Kevin Brodbin and Wayne Kramer.
Outlaw Prods. principals Bobby Newmyer, Jeff Silver and Scott Strauss will produce along with Cary Brokaw’s Avenue Pictures. Akiva Goldsman and Harlin’s producing partner, Rebecca Spikings, are also on board as producers.
Intermedia Films co-chairman Nigel Sinclair, Guy East and Moritz Borman will exec produce.
Dimension co-presidents Brad Weston and Andrew Rona will oversee the film for the studio. Basil Iwanyk and Julie Golden will oversee for Intermedia. Andrew Gumpert, senior veep of business and legal affairs, negotiated on behalf of Dimension.
