Jane Startz Productions, which holds a first-look deal with Miramax Films, has optioned and will produce “Son of the Mob,” based on the novel by children’s book author Gordon Korman.
Due in bookstores via Disney imprint Hyperion Books for Children, “Son of the Mob” tells the story of the son of a crime family who falls in love with the daughter of an FBI agent. Prolific author Korman has penned over 30 young-adult novels, including “No More Dead Dogs” and “The 6th Grade Nickname Game.”
Startz optioned Korman’s first published novel, “This Can’t Be Happening at MacDonald Hall,” while the author was still in high school. Startz Prods.’ veep Gillian MacKenzie brought the book into the company while book agent Bill Brattan of Curtis Brown brokered the deal.
Michelle Raimo, Miramax VP of production and development, and Julie Goldstein, exec VP, will oversee the project for the studio.
