Reitman to get kudos from Cinema Expo

Helmer to be feted during confab's 10th anni ceremony

HOLLYWOOD — Helmer Ivan Reitman has been tapped to receive the Cinema Expo 2001 “Award of Excellence in Filmmaking.”

He will be feted during the confab’s 10th anni awards ceremony on June 28 at the RAI Intl. Exhibition and Congress Centre in Amsterdam.

“Ivan Reitman has consistently been exciting, thrilling and entertaining moviegoers worldwide,” said Jimmy Sunshine, co-managing director of the expo.

The Cinema Expo, skedded for June 25-28, will include screenings of upcoming films — including Reitman’s sci-fi comedy “Evolution” — which are not yet released in the region, as well as information seminars, sponsored luncheons and a full-scale trade show for the equipment and concessions side of the business.

Reitman, with partner Tom Pollock, heads up the Montecito Picture Company, which has a first-look deal with DreamWorks. “Evolution” marks the second film to be produced under that pact. Another pic, “Killing Me Softly,” is due out later this year.
