Torye Mullins’ “Breathing Underwater” has won the Big Break Screenplay Competition, sponsored by popular script software maker Final Draft, production company Cannell Studios and DVD e-tailer Express.com. Judges of the second annual contest, which awards winners $10,000 and meetings with Hollywood lit agents, included Stephen J. Cannell, Syd Field, DreamWorks’ Andrea McCall and Jeff Okin of Metropolitan Talent Agency. Script by the Los Angeles native concerns a young orphaned girl who must readjust as she returns East to live with her grandmother and three unmarried aunts. “Illusion of Illusion” by Jennifer LaMoureaux and “The Would Be Witch” by Pearl Englander rounded out the top three finalists for this year’s competition. Last year’s winner, “Dawg,” scripted by Ken Hastings, is being produced by Gold Circle Films; pic stars Elizabeth Hurley and Denis Leary.
