L.A.-based specialty exhib Laemmle Theaters said Wednesday it’s acquired the local Fairfax Theater, a three-screen, 800-seat venue operated most recently by the Loews Cineplex chain.
Financial terms weren’t disclosed. Santa Monica-based Laemmle said it planned to begin operating the theater Nov. 2, after replacing seats and flooring at the Fairfax.
The theater is located at 7907 Beverly Blvd., a short distance from L.A.’s Museum Row and surrounding residential neighborhoods.
“The Fairfax will give us the opportunity to screen some of the best new movies from around the world in one of the most vital, burgeoning, densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles,” the exhib said.
Acquisition reps circuit’s first new venue since Laemmle opened the Playhouse 7 theater in Pasadena in 1999. Laemmle operates 32 screens in the greater Los Angeles area.
