HOLLYWOOD — New Line Cinema has paid low- against mid-six figures for “Da Unknown Soldier,” an action spec from “Scary Movie” scribe Phil Beauman.
Pic will be produced with Happy Walters’ Immortal Entertainment, with Ice Cube negotiating to produce and star. Story is based on an idea by Beauman and Immortal’s Matt Weaver.
In “Soldier,” one cousin in the ‘hood offers to change places with his enlisted cousin for a couple of hours so the soldier can visit his family. When the enlistee returns, he discovers that war has been declared in his absence and his relative is off to battle.
“Soldier” will be produced by Immortal’s Walters and Weaver along with Cube Vision’s Matt Alvarez. New Line production prexy Toby Emmerich and exec VP of production Lynn Harris will oversee the project.
Like “My Baby’s Mama,” which Immortal sold last week to Miramax Films ( Daily Variety, Aug. 13), “Soldier” was developed with the writer at Immortal.
Beauman, who is repped by Paradigm, also wrote and co-produced Columbia Pictures’ upcoming “Not Another Teen Movie” and was a writer on “In Living Color.”
