The German box office scored record revenues in the first quarter of the year, reporting DM 513 million ($235 million). Cinemas saw a 12.1% increase from last year and, with 47.7 million moviegoers, the highest number of admissions since German unification in 1990.

Big drawers included Buena Vista Intl.’s “What Women Want” and “The Emperor’s New Groove” and Senator’s German-lingo psychological thriller “Das Experiment.”

German pics accounted for 12.7% of the market share, a 1.7% drop from last year.
