Denmark’s Von Trier skeds ‘Ring’

World Brief

Danish director Lars von Trier, whose “Dancer in the Dark” won the Palme d’Or at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival as well as the European Film Award, will direct Richard Wagner’s “The Ring of the Nibelungs” at Bayreuth’s Wagner Festival in 2006.

Except for his live installation “The World Clock,” von Trier has not worked for the stage before. His only production of a play, Euripides’ classic “Medea,” was made for Danish pubcaster DRTV in 1988.
