Helmer William Bindley (“Madison”) will direct the feature “Sacco & Vanzetti,” with John Turturro set to star.
The film, to shoot on location in Rome in June, is being financed by Rome-based Fandango Films. Mark Pittman will produce from a screenplay by Clare and Monte Montgomery.
Pic is the story of Niccola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, Italian-American immigrants who many believed were falsely accused and ultimately executed because of their political beliefs. Turturro plays a Pittsburgh attorney who repped the infamous immigrants in their 1927 robbery-murder trial.
Bindley’s “Madison,” about a man’s personal struggle to victory in the 1971 Madison, Ind., hydroplane regatta, played at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. It has generated considerable acquisition interest, but hasn’t yet sold.
