Acad taps Harrison for N.Y. events

Replaces Wilson, who returns to BevHills headquarters

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has tapped Patrick Harrison as New York events director, Academy executive director Bruce Davis said Tuesday.

Harrison, who spent five years at Miramax as manager of awards and special events, replaces Richard Wilson, who opened the Gotham office and held the post for two years. Wilson has opted to return to the Academy’s BevHills headquarters.

In his new post, Harrison will oversee membership screenings for Gotham’s 600-plus Acad members. He also will have a hand in the annual Oscar night party, held this year at Le Cirque. He will work closely with Arthur Manson, the AMPAS’ publicity branch member who chairs the org’s New York events committee.

During his tenure with Miramax, Harrison managed campaigns on titles including “Shakespeare in Love,” “The English Patient” and “Life Is Beautiful.”

This is Harrison’s second stint with the Academy; he previously worked for AMPAS executive administrator Ric Robertson.
