Swedish fest is breathless over Godard

Filmmaker to receive Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award

PARIS — Jean-Luc Godard returns to Sweden in November for the first time in 30 years to receive the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award and to be feted as guest of honor at the Stockholm Intl. Film Festival.

Fest, which runs Nov. 8-18, has previously bestowed the honor on Gena Rowlands, Roman Polanski and, most recently, Lauren Bacall.

“His way of telling a story was opposed to the conventional style,” a spokesman said, adding that Godard’s influence can be seen everywhere in today’s cinema.

Godard made his first feature, “Breathless,” starring Jean Seberg and Jean-Paul Belmondo, in 1959. Godard’s latest film, “Eloge de l’amour,” which screened in competition in Cannes, will have its Scandi premiere at the Stockholm fest.
