MILAN — Organizers of the 68th edition of Mifed announced Tuesday that despite the current international crisis, execs’ fear of flying and competition of the nearly contemporaneous London Screenings, this year the Italo mart will be “even more lively than in 2000.”
“This time Mifed will be a no-frills market, even the opening-gala dinner has been canceled, and we’ll assign the money we would have spent to the New York Firefighters Memorial Fund. But the market will be richer than last year,” said Mario Ermellini and Giuseppe Zola, respectively CEO and prexy of organizing company Rassegne.
Registration tally to date has reached 470 films, including 225 market premieres, while companies for the Oct. 27-Nov. 2 Milan film and television market number 225, of which 93 are U.S.
Despite the pullout of some important American players including Miramax, which will send its European acquisition representatives but won’t screen any product, U.S. companies remain the largest national team.
