While working as Katzenberg’s assistant, Bookstaver wrote and directed the short film “Scriptfellas,” which starred Paul Sorvino; pic parodied Martin Scorsese’s “GoodFellas” and brought the writer-director into the public eye, leading to the feature gig.

Project will be produced by Demi Moore, Andrea Asimov and Daneen Conroy. Miramax senior veep of creative affairs Amy Slotnick will oversee the project.

Penned by Bruce Graham and Steven Gary Banks, “Slugger” follows a 10-year-old boy who learns to play baseball and overcome the death of his father, with a lot of help from the ghost of Babe Ruth.

Bookstaver directed episodes of “The Others” for NBC. He also helmed episodes of “Cover Me” for USA Networks and is now working on the David Richardson-created “Manhattan, AZ” for USA Networks.
