It’s 2005 and blood thirst is the name of the game. Renegade sport Rollerball packs arenas as players Jonathan Cross (Chris Klein), Aurora (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) and Marcus Ridley (LL Cool J) skate and motorcycle past their opponents to score. But the real competition is behind the scenes, as team owner Alexi Petrovich (Jean Reno) will sacrifice anything and anyone to maximize ratings. When Jonathan and his teammates make a play to expose Petrovich’s corruption, the penalty may be lethal. Directed by John McTiernan, this is a 21st-century take on a 1975 cheeseball classic in which James Caan had the title role and everyone wore shoulder pads. Maybe it’ll bring back the roller rink.
