Robert Lantos (“Sunshine”) will produce “Men With Brooms,” a romance to be co-financed by Serendipity Point Films and Alliance Atlantis and helmed by Canadian actor Paul Gross, who is making his directing debut.
Project, to begin lensing in Toronto on April 16, was co-written by Gross and John Krizanc. Gross, Molly Parker, Leslie Nielsen, James Allodi, Kari Matchett, Michelle Nolden, Peter Outerbridge, Jed Rees and Polly Shannon will star. Gross also produces via his Whizbang Films shingle, a partnership formed in 1999 between Gross and Frank Siracusa.
Alliance Atlantis holds worldwide distribution rights to the pic, with Serendipity handling U.S. sales.
In “Men With Brooms,” four old friends dust off their neglected brooms and sweep the past behind them on the road to realizing their late coach’s dream of the big curling trophy.
Gross is best known for his role as Constable Benton Fraser on the TV series “Due South,” for which he also served as exec producer. Among his wide-ranging credits in television are “Murder Most Likely”; his features credits include “Cold Comfort.”
Lantos’ producer credits include “Felicia’s Journey” and “The Sweet Hereafter,” from director Atom Egoyan, and “eXistenZ,” helmed by David Cronenberg.
“Men With Brooms” reunites Gross with comedic vet Nielsen, who’ll play Gross’ father; the two had first collaborated on “Due South.”
