Rampling tapped to launch Cannes

'Dreamlife' helmer Zonca prexy of jury for Palme d'Or

PARIS — Charlotte Rampling will officially open the 2001 Cannes Film Festival on May 9, fest prexy Gilles Jacob announced Wednesday. She will also present the final awards on May 20.

Director Erick Zonca (“The Dreamlife of Angels”) will be president of the jury for the Palme d’Or for short film and three prizes of the Cinefondation, the official section that presents short- and medium-length movies from film schools.

On the jury will be actress Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and directors Samira Makhmalbaf, Lynne Ramsay and Rithy Panh.

Director and actress Maria de Medeiros will head the Camera d’Or jury, which rewards the best first-time movie at Cannes from any category.
