O’seas ‘Inspirations’

Filmgroup entrenched in Kieslowski homage pic

CANNES — The late Polish auteur Krzysztof Kieslowski is the inspiration behind “Kieslowski — Inspirations,” with Overseas Filmgroup handling worldwide licensing and assisting in the financial packaging of the homage to the filmmaker.

Grazka Taylor produces the omnibus film, for which 10 helmers — including Agnieszka Holland, Wim Wenders, Rodrigo Garcia, Wayne Wang, Charles Burnett, Joan Stein and Fridrik Thor Fridriksson — will create shorts that explore Kieslowski’s influence on their own work.

Kieslowski’s films include “The Double Life of Veronique,” “Blue,” “Red” (for which he was nominated for an Oscar), “White” and “Decalogue.”

“Kieslowski — Inspirations” will be released theatrically in the U.S. via First Look Pictures, a division of First Look Media, parent company of Overseas Filmgroup.

Continuing their dealmaking, First Look Media’s co-chairman Robbie Little also announced that Overseas Filmgroup has picked up worldwide rights to the horror pic “Soulkeeper,” directed by Darin James Ferriola.

Overseas Filmgroup also will handle worldwide licensing, excluding North America, for two pics from Stonelock Pictures: Jill Sprecher’s “Thirteen Conversations About One Thing,” starring Matthew McConaughey and John Turturro, and Frank Whaley’s “The Jimmy Show,” toplining Whaley, Carla Gugino and Ethan Hawke.

Both films are repped domestically by the William Morris Agency.

Meanwhile, the company has tapped Steven DeMille as senior VP of marketing at First Look Home Entertainment. DeMille had been at Unapix Films for seven years. Before that, he worked at Fox Lorber/New Video Group.
