New Yorker goes ‘Trembling’

Cannes Brief

CANNES — Dan Talbot’s New Yorker Films has acquired U.S. rights to Sandi Simcha DuBowski’s doc “Trembling Before G-d.”

Feature-length documentary is built around the stories of Hasidic and Orthodox Jews who are gay or lesbian and must reconcile their love of Juda-ism with Biblical prohibitions of homosexuality. Pic is slated for a fall platform release.

Five years in production, “Trembling” is DuBowski’s directing debut. Following a competition preem at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival, pic garnered the Teddy Award for best doc at the 2001 Berlin Intl. Film Festival and has been invited as the closing-night film of the Human Rights Watch Film Festival in June.
