CANNES — Claude Berri next will direct “La Femme de Menage” (The Cleaning Lady). Budgeted between $8 million and $10 million, pic starts shooting next month.
“La Femme” stars Emilie Dequenne, winner of the best actress award in Cannes in 1999 for “Rosetta,” and Jean-Pierre Bacri, who co-wrote and starred in France’s Oscar-nominated “The Taste of Others.”
Dequenne, who stars in “Brotherhood of the Wolf,” plays a cleaning lady who gets romantically involved with her employer (Bacri).
“The script is full of humor — it’s about life, love and separation,” said Jacques Eric Strauss, who handles certain foreign sales on all of Berri’s films including the much-awaited mega-production “Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra,” a sequel to “Asterix and Obelix vs Caesar.”
Buyers will see a 12 minute promo reel of the new “Asterix” on Monday.
“The Cleaning Lady” will not be pre-sold, Strauss said.
