Sun shines on Canal+ Tech

Cyberbiz Brief

Sun Microsystems has invested an undisclosed amount in Vivendi Universal subsid Canal Plus Technologies in an effort to promote the use of Sun’s Java programming software in future interactive TV products and advanced digital set-top boxes. Java allows Canal Plus’ software to run on a wider variety of set-top boxes than it could otherwise. Partnership should enable content creators to develop new entertainment, news and information-based content that reaches a larger number of set-top box users. Thomson Multimedia and Sony already are investors in Canal Plus.
