Creative Planet pinkslips 20 staffers

Cyberbiz Brief

The restructuring at Creative Planet continues: The company, which is focusing its efforts on its Studio System database and Movie Magic budgeting and scheduling software products, has laid off an additional 20 staffers, reducing its employee numbers to roughly 65. The company once had more than 300 in its ranks. The company also said it has raised several million dollars in additional financing from returning investors, including United Entertainment Media. While Creative Planet declined to disclose specifics on the new round, the Los Angeles-based venture said it is funded well enough to progress through the dour marketplace. “Everybody sat around the table saying that this market is tough right now,” said Creative Planet chairman-CEO Allen DeBevoise. “Unfortunately, we have to keep things leaner to make it work in moving ahead. We’re being as careful as we can.” Creative Planet last week formed a new company and handed over operation of its network of film and television industry Web sites to United Entertainment Media in an effort to keep sites such as VFXpro.com and PostIndustry.com operational.
