The historic El Capitan Theatre and Entertainment Centre will be home to the first Video Business Video Premiere Awards show in October.
Buena Vista Home Entertainment has become the first official sponsor of the program through its rental of the elegant 1,000-seat movie palace, with full balcony and stage, that is operated by the Walt Disney Co.
The iconic Hollywood Boulevard venue on Thursday will celebrate the 75th anniversary of its 1926 opening as Hollywood’s first home for live theatrical plays. In 1941, El Capitan was host for the world premiere of Orson Welles’ “Citizen Kane.”
This year is also the 10th anniversary of the grand reopening of the theater in 1991 after extensive renovation and remodeling by Disney.
The nominees and winners of the first Video Business Video Premiere Awards — the first to acknowledge the creative achievement in movie-related programming seen for the first time on videocassette, DVD special editions and the Internet — were announced Feb. 26.
Winners for 2001 will be unveiled at the first awards program, on the evening of Oct. 23 at El Capitan.
Disney’s renovation of the site restored the legitimate theater dimensions of the stage. In addition to a 45-foot movie screen, a high-speed lift was added to center stage.
