‘VeggieTales’ hit the stage

Christian kids videos gets blessing for touring show

HOLLYWOOD — With production under way on a computer-animated feature version of the enormously popular Christian kids videos “VeggieTales,” scheduled to premiere in movie theaters next year, creator Big Ideas Prods. has teamed with Clear Channel Entertainment to produce a new stage version of that also will debut in 2002.

The touring show, part of a two-year worldwide agreement between Clear Channel and Big Ideas, will launch in February at Minneapolis’ State Theater. Other cities targeted for the initial 40-week run in the U.S. include Dallas; Philadelphia; Indianapolis, Ind.; Cincinnati, Ohio; Denver; Detroit; Chicago; Los Angeles; Atlanta; Seattle; and Orlando, Fla.

The 15 “VeggieTales” videos, featuring Christian stories and songs told and sung by characters such as Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber and Junior Asparagus, have sold more than 22 million copies since 1993.
