Pro-Harper SAG group rallies

Candidate's supporters include Bosley, Savage, Diller, Elizondo

HOLLYWOOD — Supporters of Valerie Harper’s candidacy for SAG presidency have lined up several dozen high-profile endorsers as the campaign begins to take shape.

Board member Sally Kirkland is approaching West Coast backers while board member Joe Pantoliano is seeking support in Gotham.

Harper, Eugene Boggs, Melissa Gilbert and Angel Tompkins have announced plans to run for the position being vacated by retiring prexy William Daniels, with voting set for October.

Harper’s supporters include board members Tom Bosley, Frances Fisher, Peter Mark Richman and Fred Savage along with Karen Black, Susan Blakely, Roscoe Lee Browne, Seymour Cassel, Bud Cort, Richard Crenna, Phyllis Diller, Hector Elizondo, Joely Fisher, Robert Forster, Estelle Getty, Mark Hamill, Michele Lee, Melanie Mayron, Rita Moreno, Kim Novak, Ron Rifkin, Jane Seymour, Alicia Silverstone, Nancy Sinatra, Dick Van Dyke, Lesley Ann Warren, Shelley Winters and Anthony Zerbe.

Harper, who was elected to the board last fall with the highest number of votes among the 68 candidates, is due to be interviewed later this week by SAG’s nominating committee. She is in Gotham rehearsing for “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife.”
