The 5,500-member Intl. Cinematographers Guild Local 600 has re-elected George Spiro Dibie as president over challenger Gary Dunham. Dibie took nearly 70% of the vote.
Other winners for national offices included Chaim Kantor, national VP; Rusty Burrell, 1st VP; Haskell Wexler, 2nd VP; Peter Hapke, secretary-treasurer; Susan Starr, assistant secretary-treasurer; and Frank Miller, sergeant-at-arms. All were members of Dibie’s Unity slate.
Hapke continues in the same post he already held. Burrell had been sergeant-at-arms and Kantor had been assistant secretary-treasurer.
The local, part of the Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, was created in 1996 as the IA’s first national local through prexy Thomas Short’s efforts to merge former locals 644, 666 and 659. Dibie campaigned on a platform of continued contract gains, citing the current three-year pact signed in 1999 following early negotiations.
