Online entertainment content creator Brilliant Digital Entertainment reported a 109% boost in first-quarter net revenues to $390,000 compared with $187,000 a year earlier. It posted a net loss of $1.7 million compared with $1.9 million a year ago. Brilliant Digital attributes the improved results to a shift in emphasis to a technology licensing, Internet syndication and rich media advertising strategy and away from a retail distribution strategy.
Separately, Brilliant Digital also said that it has raised $2.3 million in financing from investors including chairman and CEO Mark Dyne, as well as CEO Kevin Bermeister.
Brilliant produces 3D digitally animated interactive titles featuring popular characters and music artists that include Ja Rule, Ludacris, Superman, Xena, KISS and Ace Ventura. Content is distribbed to Yahoo, Warner Bros. Online and VH1.com, among other sites.
