Bart on leave of absence

<I>Variety</I> editor-in-chief suspends activities due to investigation

Peter Bart, editor-in-chief of Variety and Daily Variety, took a leave of absence from the paper Aug. 17. Both Variety and Bart agreed that he should suspend his activities at the paper while the company looks into remarks he is alleged to have made.

The remarks were attributed to Bart in an article published in the September issue of Los Angeles magazine. He denies having made the remarks.

Bart has edited the papers since 1989.
