MADRID — Atticus Entertainment Group, a new company set up by former Polygram exec Rafael Alvero, has inked an exclusive consultancy deal with Telefonica Media aimed at creating synergies among TM’s sprawling assets.
Alvero’s Atticus will identify products or programming capable of exploitation across TM’s interests, which include broadcasters Antena 3 and Telefe in Spain and Argentina; Spanish satcaster Via Digital; Dutch TV giant Endemol; and pic producer Lolafilms, based in Spain and the U.K.
Move follows the appointment of former HBO Latin America prexy Ele Juarez as managing director. It also ends speculation about Alvero’s future. He was CEO of film producer Universal Pictures Spain, which shuttered in December after a year in existence.
Alvero was managing director of cinema for Polygram Filmed Entertainment Spain, where he nursed pics such as “Dead Man Walking” to stand-out perfs.
Alvero’s deal is one of the first public decisions by TM prexy Juan Jose Nieto, appointed last August to shake TM into profit as the rumor mill still spins regarding TM’s future. Latest buzz is that TM is close to selling its 5% stake in Pearson.
