Up Front worships idols

A&E commissions Toronto co. to produce three Biography programs

TORONTO — A&E has commissioned Toronto-based Up Front Entertainment to produce three Biography programs on ’50s and ’60s pop teen idols Bobby Rydell, Lesley Gore and Brenda Lee.

“We’ve done a lot of work with Canadian companies in the past,” said A&E Canada VP Shelley Blaine Goodman, explaining why American subjects have gone to Canadian producers. “They have a great reputation for making excellent documentaries.”

“We pitched them on the idea of doing some stories of teen idols,” said Up Front prexy Barbara Barde, who will be directing and producing the three segs.

Up Front most recently teamed with A&E in 1999 on “The Bunny Years.”
