MIAMI — Univision Communications has acquired exclusive U.S. Spanish-lingo TV rights to the finals of the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cup soccer tournaments.
Financial terms were not disclosed. All 64 matches of the 2002 cup, to be held in Korea and Japan, will be broadcast on either broadcast net Univision or on cable net Galavision, also owned by Univision Communications.
Univision has aired every World Cup since 1978. It also announced it has acquired exclusive Spanish-lingo TV rights to other FIFA events, including the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 2001, 2003 and 2005 FIFA Confederations Cups, and the World Youth and U-17 Championships in those same years.
