British network ITV has ordered 26 episodes of the animated half-hour “Butt-Ugly Martians.”
The series, to be produced in 3-D CGI animation, has yet to find a U.S. home. Producers Mike Young Productions, The Just Group PLC and DCDC are in talks with various domestic outlets.
Mike Young Productions previously produced 26 half-hour episodes of the 3-D CGI animated series “Voltron: The Third Dimension” for Summit Media and World Events.
U.K.-based The Just Group will handle international TV, video, merchandising and licensing rights to “Butt-Ugly Martians,” while Hong Kong-based DCDC has TV rights in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
The skein follows the exploits of three martians who come to destroy the Earth but decide to stay and spare the planet after being swayed by humanly delights.
Gary Selvaggio, who directed the first season of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” created “Butt-Ugly Martians.”
Young hopes to follow the same route as “Pokemon,” which became a hit overseas before making it to the U.S. shores.
Mike Young Productions also produces “Clifford the Big Red Dog” for Scholastic Productions and PBS; “Horrible Histories,” along with Scholastic and Irish studio Telegael; and the Universal homevideo feature “The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus.”
