NEW YORK — Howard Stern, whose latenight show tends to be E!’s highest-rated regular series, may have come up with another cable hit in “Son of the Beach.”
In its debut on FX March 14 at 10:30 p.m., “Beach,” a satire of “Baywatch,” harvested a 2.3 rating in cable homes, delivering 1.1-million households, a higher number than any other FX series since the network kicked off in June 1994.
Fox TV Studios has bought the worldwide rights to “Beach.” The show has a six-episode commitment, but Stern’s writers have completed scripts for seven additional half-hours. If next week’s ratings approximate those of March 14, FX will give the production go-ahead to the extra seven episodes.
Stern is co-executive producer with the three writers who created “Beach”: Tim Stack, David Morgasen and James R. Stein.
