Spumco, Hearst ink for ‘Ripping’ goods

'Manly' series to air in 2001

NEW YORK — John Kricfalusi, creator of “The Ren & Stimpy Show,” said Friday his Spumco animation studio has inked a deal with Hearst Entertainment for worldwide merchandise licensing of new animated series “The Ripping Friends.”

Series is skedded to air on the Fox Kids Network in the first half of 2001. It’s the tale of a group of “the manliest men in the world,” the companies said, sworn to make the earth a safe place in which to be manly.

Rick Karo, exec VP of Hearst’s growing Entertainment Licensing and Family Programming division, called the series “one of those uniquely funny entertainment properties with a huge upside potential for the licensing and promotional community.”
